SHEFFIELD, England — The Nottingham Panthers have been thrown into mourning after they lost one of their team members Adam Johnson. He was a talented American hockey player who tragically died on Saturday 28th October, 2023 after suffering a catastrophic cut to his neck from a blade during a match against the Sheffield Steelers in the Challenge Cup. 28 year old Johnson was rushed to the hospital in an emergency ambulance, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. “The accident was horrific and left many fans in tears as the match was abandoned,” said witnesses.
“Following the devastating news of Adam Johnson’s passing, the Nottingham Panthers can confirm that today’s challenge cup game vs Manchester has been postponed along with all other Elite League games. The club can also confirm that Tuesday’s home game on the 31st October vs Glasgow Clan has also been postponed,” said the club’s statement.
“The club will also provide updates on our website and social media regarding future fixtures and all tickets information for postponed games as soon as it is possible to do so, we ask for everyone’s understanding and patience regarding this news and ask that fans refrain from emailing or contacting the club as our staff come to terms with today’s tragic news,” added the statement.
Following the untimely death of the 29 year old Adam, fans and clubs have sent their condolences messages across their respective social media platforms. “The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) extends it’s deepest condolences to the loved ones of Nottingham Panthers forward Adam Johnson who sadly passed away after receiving a tragic injury on the ice. our thoughts are with the English and American ice hockey families at this difficult time,” said Russian Hockey on X.
Johnson joined the Pittsburgh Penguins team in March 2019 before signing up for The Nottingham Panthers team in August where he was a player until his sudden demise.
Johnson appeared in 13 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was a popular member of the Nottingham Panthers and a skilled athlete. His death is a loss to the hockey community and to everyone who knew him.
