The following article, SHOCK: Uvalde Cops Never Tried Opening Classroom Door, was first published on Flag And Cross.
In the immediate aftermath of the Robb Elementary School massacre, there was a very uneasy feeling among onlookers and witnesses.
As social media began to buzz in response to the shooting, in which a teenaged gunman killed 19 students and 2 teachers, a rather disturbing picture was painted. Police, who’ve long been trained to immediately confront school shooters in drills, would not enter the school building. There were video of police even restraining families and onlookers from springing into action, all while gunshots rang out from inside Robb Elementary.
It was further revealed that police within the school weren’t able to breach the door to the classroom where they could confront the gunman.
This week, that part of the story took an even more tawdry turn after it was disclosed that they maybe didn’t even try to get into the room.
For 77 minutes, Uvalde police officers stood by as accused gunman Salvador Ramos rampaged through Robb Elementary School, killing 19 students and two teachers. New surveillance footage reportedly shows that those sworn to serve and protect didn’t even bother wiggling the door handle to get into the classroom.
Responding police officers appear to have assumed the doors to classrooms 111 and 112 were locked without actually checking, a source told the San Antonio News-Express Saturday. Instead, they waited around for a master key until, more than an hour later, a Border Patrol tactical team killed the suspect.
The same source told the News-Express that even without the key, officers had almost immediate access to a crowbar-like tool that should have been able to pry the door open, if it was locked at all.
The Uvalde Police Department is already under investigation due to their perceived inaction, but officials have warned that it cold take weeks for the public to see what that probe has discovered.
