As the world remains rather handcuffed in their hopes of stopping Russia’s genocide in Ukraine, it appears as though the inaction of the international community has emboldened one of the world’s other villainous regimes, this time in the Far East.
Experts had long warned that a tepid response against Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine could embolden the Chinese Communist Party, particularly as it pertains to their plans for Taiwan. Now, as Beijing’s military exercises ramp up in the region, China is making their boldest threats yet about those who might wish to intervene.
China will ‘smash to smithereens any Taiwan independence plot and resolutely uphold the unification of the motherland’ Chinese Defense Minister Fenghe told U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue conference in Singapore on Friday.
The threat was bold, to say the least.
‘If anyone dares to split Taiwan from China, the Chinese army will definitely not hesitate to start a war no matter the cost’, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Wu Qian quoted the Fenghe as saying during the meeting, in what is a escalating of tension, not least of which in the type of language being used.
This is some of China’s strongest language yet on the subject of Taiwan, and will almost certainly have US national security advisers scrambling for an appropriate response.
