In just a few weeks’ time, the January 6th select committee will be holding live, public hearings on the subject of their investigation, and there is little doubt that much of America will be tuned in.
The issue of the attempted insurrection of that fateful day is a hot-button topic on both sides of the aisle, as a rift forms within the GOP regarding the severity of the event, and as the left froths at the mouth in hopes of taking a big bite out of Donald Trump ahead of 2024.
These hearings could be explosive, to put it lightly, but there are now warnings being issued for before the hearings, with those in the know suggesting that things could get wild well before the cameras are rolling.
Chiefs of staff and other aides to members of the House Select Committee investigating January 6 were warned to prepare for “bombshells” ahead of public hearings next month.
The warning came Friday on a weekly call with committee staff, Axios reported, citing two sources that were on the call. A security meeting with the US Capitol Police is scheduled for May 20 to prepare lawmakers and their staff for the public hearings, which are due to begin on June 9.
Last week, the January 6 committee issued subpoenas for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, as well as Reps. Jim Jordan, Scott Perry, Mo Brooks, and Andy Biggs.
The Republican Party has largely viewed the committee as little more than a liberal fishing expedition whose scope is far too wide to be considered anything less.
And with the midterm elections just over the horizon, these public hearings could be just another piece of the larger Democratic Party midterm strategy.
