The southern border of the United States has long harbored an abhorrent and embarrassing humanitarian crisis that continues to fester thanks to the stagnation of our federal government.
Joe Biden’s election didn’t help either. Not only are Democratic administrations a harbinger of increased immigration due to their lenient policies, but Biden’s particularly reluctant ethos seems to have allowed the issue to bloom into something truly unwieldily.
During an interview with NBC News this week, Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz explained just how desperate the situation had become.
NBC News Correspondent Morgan Chesky commented on the drowning death of Texas National Guard Spc. Bishop Evans by stating, “Authorities say he disappeared in a fast current Friday, trying to save two drowning migrants. Underscoring what Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz calls his biggest need.”
In a clip following Chesky’s comments, Ortiz said, “We need more agents. We need to resource some equipment and some help from other agencies. This just can’t be a border security or Border Patrol problem.”
Biden had previously appointed Vice President Kamala Harris the de facto “border czar”, but the former California lawmaker refused to even visit the region until almost 90 days into that role, and with no concrete solutions or suggestions once she did.
