When it comes to speculation regarding the 2024 presidential election, much of the action is over on the right side of the aisle thanks to Joe Biden’s somewhat puzzling decision to declare that he’ll be running for reelection 3 years ahead of time, and while he’s sporting one of the worst approval ratings in modern history.
For the Republicans, however, the story is much different. Donald Trump hasn’t yet announced his plan to run again, but he sure has done a lot of hinting about it. There are a few notable Republicans out there being a bit coy about their potential challenges to the former President, including former VP Mike Pence, former UN Ambassador Nikki Hailey, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis – all of whom are or were aligned with Trump on most issues over the course of the last 5 years.
But there are those who on the outside of the MAGA Movement majority who think they may also have a shot against No. 45, including Adam Kinzinger.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), one of the staunchest anti-MAGA voices in Congress, said he would “love” to run against former President Donald Trump for the White House in 2024.
“I would love it. I really would,” Kinzinger stated in a recent interview with the leftwing Huffington Post. “Even if he crushed me, like in a primary, to be able to stand up and call out the garbage is just a necessary thing, regardless of who it is. … I think it’d be fun.”
Nothing is official yet, says the Congressman.
On the topic of when Kinzinger could announce a long shot campaign, the Illinois Republican said, “I’ll make a decision when we get there, if there’s a need and a desire. It’s truly not anything I’m planning right now, but I’m not going to rule it out.”
Kinzinger has been one of the nation’s most vocal anti-Trump voices in Congress, and his inclusion on the January 6th select committee has been lambasted by the heart of the Trump-loyal majority within the GOP.
