The following article, BEYOND THE PALE: Russia Accused of Chemical Weapons Attack in Mariupol, was first published on Flag And Cross.

If there is one thing that remains true about the Russian army today, it is that they appear to have lost all of their humanity age ago.

You see, the Kremlin’s military has lost nearly all of its sheen in recent weeks, as the once-feared fighting force continues to falter in Ukraine.  At this point, as the army resorts to terrorism and war crimes, there is very little reason for any world superpower to be worried about Russia in that regard, other than Vladimir Putin’s nuclear fatalism.

But still NATO and the west have remained largely on the sidelines in Ukraine.  That could all change as the news out of Mariupol continues to turn ever more gruesome.

“These reports, if true, are deeply concerning and reflective of concerns that we have had about Russia’s potential to use a variety of riot control agents, including tear gas mixed with chemical agents, in Ukraine,” press secretary John Kirby said in a statement, adding that the Defense Department will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Russia has long been willing to use chemical and nerve agents against their enemies, both politically and literally, and one has to wonder whether or not this possible poisoning in Mariupol will spur the rest of the world to action.
