IRS Looking for New Rule Forcing You to Supply Face Scan for Online Tax Accounts

The following article, IRS Looking for New Rule Forcing You to Supply Face Scan for Online Tax Accounts, was first published on .

The Internal Revenue Service is now looking to force taxpayers to supply a face scan to allow them to access files online.

The possible new rule, first reported on by Krebs on Security, said that the IRS intends to force taxpayers to give up a face scan to login to filed taxes through a special third-party service.

The third-party company, ID.me, partnered up with the IRS in November, and was contracted to “improve accessibility” and security for taxpayers using online services.

“Identity verification is critical to protect taxpayers and their information. The IRS has been working hard to make improvements in this area, and this new verification process is designed to make IRS online applications as secure as possible for people,” IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said in November.

The IRS recently told CNBC that the scans are not being required to file taxes currently but will be required to view and manage online services and accounts.

You know, though, that facial recognition will eventually be required for all service, including filing. They may not be requiring it now, but once it is set in motion, it will continue to grow.

With as incompetent as the government is, how secure do you think this sensitive information of yours will be, America? How long until the U.S. government demands your DNA as proof of ID?
