The tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins remains under investigation this week, and a war of words appears to be brewing between local authorities and Hollywood A-lister Alec Baldwin.
Baldwin was rehearsing drawing a Colt revolver when Hutchins was shot and killed, by live ammunition that should never have been on set in the first place. Baldwin is claiming that he never pulled the trigger – a claim that experts are having a difficult time deciphering.
Furthermore, local authorities appears to be concerned about Baldwin’s unhurried response to a search warrant for his cell phone, and they are speaking very publicly about that concern.
Alec Baldwin has still not turned over his cell phone to the officers investigating the shooting on the set of his film, Rust, despite his many claims that he is cooperating with the investigation.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for Baldwin’s cell phone back on Dec. 16, and according to the Hollywood Reporter, the actor’s lawyer has acknowledgedreceipt of the order. But Baldwin has yet to comply, the paper added.
The sheriff’s office has reportedly turned to the district attorney’s office because the actor has still not complied with the warrant.
Baldwin appears to have a different opinion of the situation.
Despite the clear facts, though, Baldwin continues to insist that he has been complying with all legal orders from investigators.
“Any suggestion that I am not complying with requests or orders or demands or search warrants about my phone, that’s bull***, that’s a lie,” Baldwin said in a video rant posted to social media on Jan. 8.
Baldwin’s lawyers insist that an agreement has been reached regarding a deadline to turn over the phone, but with a month having passed, there’s no telling how relevant the contents remaining on his phone will be to the investigation at this point.
