The most active battlefield in America’s political narrative this week has to be the legacy of the January 6th Capitol riot, and just how serious the event was.
Listening to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on Thursday, you would think that the Republicans had aligned themselves with the Axis powers of World War II and were planning to commit endless atrocities against their Democratic colleagues. You would have heard that Democracy was dying and that our nation would soon fall.
It was despondent drivel at its finest, and set a tone that the Executive Branch may not have fully understood at the time that the speechwriters were tapping away on their keyboards.
But, on the other side of the aisle, there was a much, much different sentiment.
Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) took to the spotlight on Thursday to offer a reflection on last year’s Capitol riot that varied pretty drastically from most others today.
The two Republicans first appeared on Stephen Bannon’s podcast to declare “we’re ashamed of nothing,” as Gaetz put it, per Axios. “We’re proud of the work we did on Jan. 6 to make legitimate arguments about election integrity,” Gaetz continued, with Greene’s agreement.
And that wasn’t all.
The pair also continued to suggest that the attack was some sort of “inside job”, perpetrated by Capitol Police and leftists in disguise – a claim that has been roundly rejected by the mainstream media.
