As the omicron variant continues to surge throughout the United States, some familiar and unpleasant suggestions appear to be rearing their ugly heads again, and it could lead to a great deal of angst among Americans.
One of the first of the gloomy ideas came to us from the ever-solemn Dr. Anthony Fauci, who’s been pushing for strict COVID-19 guidelines since the very beginning of the pandemic. His latest suggestion is that Americans, even if they are fully vaccinated, should avoid eating out at restaurants anytime soon. This not only marks a significant step backward in our pandemic progress, but deals a mighty blow to an industry already ravaged by the coronavirus.
Now, just on the heels of that suggestion, the CDC is now said to be considering a stern new requirement for asymptomatic Americans who’ve contracted the illness.
As the omicron variant surges across the United States, top federal health officials are looking to add a negative test along with its five-day isolation restrictions for asymptomatic Americans who catch the coronavirus, the White House’s top medical adviser said Sunday.
Dr. Anthony Fauci said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now considering including the negative test as part of its guidance after getting significant “pushback” on its updated recommendations last week.
Under that Dec. 27 guidance, isolation restrictions for people infected with COVID-19 were shortened from 10 days to five days if they are no longer feeling symptoms or running a fever. After that period, they are asked to spend the following five days wearing a mask when around others.
The shortening of those isolation periods received a hearty doze of rebuke from Americans, however, after it was revealed that the suggestion came not from scientists with the CDC, but from the CEO of Delta Airlines.
