J6 Committee Ignores Executive Privilege Claims, Issues Another Contempt Charge

The following article, J6 Committee Ignores Executive Privilege Claims, Issues Another Contempt Charge, was first published on Flag And Cross.

To say that the select committee investigating January 6th is acting recklessly would not be altogether controversial, and this week provided us with yet another example of just how true this is.

You see, the committee has a very clear agenda and an incredibly obtuse political bias.  They are looking to re-adjudicate the second impeachment of Donald Trump, only this time with Democrats and anti-Trump Republicans at the helm.

In this pursuit, they have completely ignored the need for a proper ruling on the subject of executive privilege, taking current President Joe Biden’s decision on the matter as a legal ruling.  This has, predictably, made many of the committee’s targets hesitant to testify out of fear that a later adjudication of the issue could expose them to litigation in the future.

Still, the committee presses on, nonchalant in their approach to this all-important issue.

The House of Representatives voted Tuesday in favor of a resolution to hold former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows in contempt of Congress.

The vote comes a day after the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol voted 9-0 to recommend Meadows for prosecution after he refused to testify before the panel. The resolution was adopted in a 222-208 vote.

The move drew swift condemnation from members of the GOP.

The move was seen by some as a game of politics.

“Americans can barely afford groceries. Gas prices are up. Crime is skyrocketing. And what do Democrats do? Punish their political foe in the dead of night, with no one watching. Pathetic,” Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, tweeted.

Meadows is now the second Trump aide to face contempt charges after Steve Bannon was similarly targeted by the committee after also suggesting that there hadn’t yet been a proper understanding of the executive privilege claims of the former White House.
