Texas Governor’s Approval Rating Makes Major Shift Amid Abortion Law Fiasco

The following article, Texas Governor’s Approval Rating Makes Major Shift Amid Abortion Law Fiasco, was first published on Flag And Cross.

A new Texas abortion law has been the subject of a great debate here in the United States of late, and the ramifications of this heated argument have been widespread.

The law itself has been kicking around for some time, all while in a strange legal limbo that had many Americans wondering whether or not it comports with the infamous Roe v. Wade Supreme Court ruling.  Last week, the Supreme Court itself upheld the law, ending that debate, and sending the liberal media into a tailspin.

The Biden administration has even taken some cheap shots at Texas on account of it, the latest of which saw the Justice Department threaten to intervene in certain cases in Texas that are related to violence at abortion clinics.

All of the hullabaloo has Governor Greg Abbott’s approval rating looking a bit skittish.

Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott’s approval rating is waning as most Texans say the state is on the “wrong track,” according to a poll from The Texas Policy Project at the University of Texas at Austin.

The survey released Thursday found that 41 percent of Texans approved of the job Abbott is doing, compared to 50 percent who disapproved of his job performance.

The approval is lower than it was in June when 44 percent approved of the governor’s performance, equal to the 44 percent that said they disapproved.

Fifty-two percent of voters said the state is headed in the wrong direction, the worst the institute has recorded since it started in 2008.

The more recent Texas Policy Project poll found that Abbott’s job approval dropped among all partisan groups, but decreased most significantly among independents. Thirty percent of respondents who identified as independent voters said they approve of the job Abbott is doing, down from 41 percent in June.

His approval dropped from 77 percent to 73 percent among Republicans, and from 8 percent to 6 percent among Democrats.

But we mustn’t forget that Texas is famous for their independence, and these paltry polling points aren’t likely to have Abbott sweating.
