A new study about hot dogs just might send old Oscar Mayer into heart palpitations with its news that eating  just one hot dog reduces your life span by 36 minutes!

Researchers at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, Department of Environmental Health Sciences released the results of their study of the humble hot dog, and it ain’t good for the ballpark favorite, reported Fox News.

The researchers claimed that their newly created nutritional index aims to inform Americans about how to achieve “healthier and more environmentally stable diets,” Fox said.

One of the biggest “danger zone” items is the hot dog, the study’s authors said. Some of the other big offenders are sugary drinks and breakfast sandwiches.

Boring stuff made the “best” list, unsurprisingly. Fruits, non-starchy and mixed vegetables, and cooked grains were the best, they said.

“We use the results to inform marginal dietary substitutions, which are realistic and feasible,” the authors added. “We find that small, targeted, food-level substitutions can achieve compelling nutritional benefits and environmental impact reductions.”

“Previous studies investigating healthy or sustainable diets have often reduced their findings to a discussion of plant-based versus animal-based foods, with the latter stigmatized as the least nutritious and sustainable,” a portion of the study said. “Although we find that plant-based foods generally perform better, there are considerable variations within both plant-based and animal-based foods that should be acknowledged before such generalized inferences are warranted.”

The authors added that just swapping out ten percent of the “bad” stuff can have significant benefits.

For instance, eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich increased a person’s life by 33 minutes, and other foods such as “salted peanuts, baked salmon, and rice with beans” added between 10 and 15 minutes to a lifespan.

If that was true I would be dead by now. Stop this eating crap. I like veggies but NOT as daily eat!!
