When it comes to depicting the future of the human race, there are very few of us who look at the possibilities before us with optimism. Even in pop culture, we find ourselves drifting toward the dystopian, believing that everything will end poorly and likely under some sort of authoritarian rule.
Some even believe that the emergence of high-functioning artificial intelligence could bring about some sort of robotic revolution in which the human race would be enslaved by ultra smart and powerful machines.
Of course, this is all just the fever dream of someone who recently watched a Terminator movie.
Executive Elon Musk on Thursday said the electric automaker will probably launch a “Tesla Bot” humanoid robot prototype next year
The robot will reportedly be five foot eight inches tall and designed for dangerous, repetitive or boring work that people don’t like to do.
Speaking at Tesla’s AI Day event, the billionaire entrepreneur said the robot would be able to fulfil duties like picking up shopping and carrying out mechanical work on cars.
The CEO claimed the robot would have “profound implications for the economy,” adding it was “important to make the machine not “super-expensive.”
But some were skeptical, as Musk has long held a reputation for putting the cart before the horse when it comes to announcing future plans without concrete R&D to back them up.
