The Biden administration is coming under heavy criticism this week for their decision-making on the subject of Afghanistan, and there isn’t likely an end in sight for their troubles.
The White House had earlier decided to expedite the withdrawal of US troops from the nation ahead of schedule, creating a power vacuum that was violently and swiftly filled by the Taliban, who swept across the nation conquering city after city.
By the time they had reached Kabul, the President of Afghanistan had fled to the UAE, and the terror organization swiftly got to work reworking the entire identity of the nation.
And, sadly, the Biden White House was unprepared for the swiftness of the siege, leaving a great deal of important American assets in their path.
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Tuesday that a “fair amount” of U.S. weaponry had fallen into the hands of the Taliban since the hard-line Islamic militant group’s rapid takeover Afghanistan in recent days.
During a White House press briefing, Sullivan was ask what will happen with the billions of dollars in equipment, including guns, ammunition and helicopters given to the Afghanistan government in the two decades before its collapse.
“We don’t have a complete picture, obviously, of where every article of defense materials has gone,” the Biden adviser answered briefly. “But certainly, a fair amount of it has fallen into the hands of the Taliban, and, obviously, we don’t have a sense that they are going to readily hand it over to us at the airport.”
Sullivan’s lackadaisical assessment of the situation is likely to come under fire as well, as the Biden administration continues to be raked over the coals over their messaging in the wake of this preventable atrocity.
