The AWOL Texas statehouse Democrats may have just opened up a political Pandora’s Box that few of us could ever have seen coming.
The lawmakers absconded off to Washington DC several days ago in order to stall the passage of a voting security bill that they say would unfairly disenfranchise minority voters. The move prompted the Governor of the Lone Star State to declare that they would be immediately arrested upon reentry to Texas, and brought to statehouse to complete their duty as a public servant.
Now it looks like US Senator Lindsey Graham is looking to get in on the action.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. condemned the Democratic spending package and said during an exclusive interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” that, if needed, he will follow the lead of the Texas House Democrats who fled their home state in an effort to kill GOP-backed voting legislation.
“Hell yeah, I would leave,” Graham told host Maria Bartiromo. “I would use everything lawfully in my toolbox to prevent rampant inflation.”
The Republican senator made the comments five days after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that the Budget Committee had reached an agreement to allot $3.5 trillion for a spending package that would complete President Biden’s infrastructure plan.
Should the precedent set by the Texas Democrats begin to spiral out of control, it could bring local and federal governments to their knees from coast to coast, and further disenfranchise all American voters.
