A poll taken of voters in the very important battleground state of Pennsylvania shows that Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s lead is shrinking rapidly as election day draws ever nearer.
Folks, this should tell you how close this race is probably going to be. At least on the surface. Keep in mind that polls were notoriously wrong in the 2016 election, so take what these things say with a grain of salt.
In the poll released Monday, among all registered voters, 50% support Biden and 45% back Trump. Also, 1% support Libertarian Jo Jorgensen and 4% are undecided or won’t reveal their vote.
“All eyes have been on the Keystone State from the start. Pennsylvania voters may have responded more than most to key events, such as the conventions and the debates. This potential for movement is one reason why both campaigns have spent so much time there,” Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute, said in a statement.
The poll found Trump had edges on two issues: protecting jobs, and law and order. Biden held a major advantage on handling the COVID-19 pandemic.
The poll results indicate there’s been movement in 10 counties in the state. Voters in those counties, just last month, gave Joe Biden the edge in the election 53-42, but now it’s gone to Trump at 49-45.
Adam Shaw of Fox News writes, ”
The state, with its 20 electoral votes, is seen as likely to decide the election by many analysts. FiveThirtyEight founder and pollster Nate Silver said on Sunday that Biden becomes the ‘underdog’ if Trump wins the state. Both candidates held events in the Keystone State over the weekend and had planned appearances there Monday.”
Again, it’s critical for us all to remember that polls are not nearly as accurate as we once thought they were. At least not with an outlier like President Trump being the primary focus. Anything at all is possible.
However, keep in mind that a lot of Trump voters aren’t actively participating in these polls, which means there’s a large number of silent individuals who will roar like lions when they cast a ballot for Trump on Tuesday.
