The following article, White House Says All States Should Look At New COVID-19 Guidelines As ‘Rules’, was first published on Flag And Cross.
White House Coronavirus Response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx recently did an interview with “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday morning and stated that states should view the guidelines being put out about dealing with COVID-19 as “rules.”
During the interview, host Steve Doocy noted that the previous day, the Trump administration spoke about national guidelines that are in effect for at least the next 15 days and asked if there should be national rules if the country wants to get this outbreak over with as soon as possible.
Here’s more on Birx’s answer from Fox News:
Birx answered, “I believe when the president takes the bold step of putting out national guidelines – you can read those as national rules.”
She noted that the national guidelines were “based on all the scientific data” and that they “will make a change on how this epidemic is spread.”
“Although it says ‘presidential guidelines for all Americans,’ take that as presidential rules for every American,” Birx said.
Birx added, “We understand that we are a United States full of governors and mayors that have independent decision-making capacity, but this is what we’re saying from the national level that will make a difference in this epidemic.”
She went on to say that if people follow the national guidelines, especially as it pertains to social distancing, it could “keep the hospitals from having to find more ICU beds, more ventilators.”
Now, it’s quite clear that we do need to follow these procedures for a time to ensure we put this coronavirus outbreak down as quickly as possible. However, we also need to be very cautious about giving up too much of our liberty and freedom in exchange for security.
As we all well know, when the government places limits on liberty, it’s really, really hard to get them to give back what they took. Especially liberals like the mayor of New Orleans who passed legislation under the guise of coronavirus protection that allows her to ban gun sales.
This is a clear violation of the Second Amendment, but it’s a move that is being justified by stating that it is for people’s “safety” during this tense time inspired by the coronavirus outbreak.
So, while national rules might be necessary to a certain extent, we need to look at what government at all levels is doing very carefully to make sure they do not strip us of power and liberty.
