AOC Fails to Mention Amazon Only Bringing 1,500 Jobs Instead of 25,000 After She Interfered

The following article, AOC Fails to Mention Amazon Only Bringing 1,500 Jobs Instead of 25,000 After She Interfered, was first published on Flag And Cross.

It might be time to raise the age limit for members of Congress. However old AOC is is clearly too young. She’s far too naive to be in such a position of power. And worse yet, you just know she’ll run for president in 2024. That’s a devastatingly scary thought.

After working to undermine Amazon’s deal to open a headquarters in her state, which would’ve brought with it billions for the local economy and 25,000 jobs, AOC celebrated and Amazon moved on.

On Saturday, the Jeff Bezos-led company announced it would open a much, much smaller operation in Manhattan, employing only 1,500 people. In case AOC isn’t sure, that’s a lose of 23,500 potential jobs.

She doesn’t care, though. She thinks she won the argument. Naturally, she’s wrong. Go figure.

Me waiting on the haters to apologize after we were proven right on Amazon and saved the public billions

From Daily Mail:

However, the congresswoman’s critics were quick to point out that Amazon’s new plans differ significantly from the cancelled HQ2.

‘Another day, another viral misleading tweet from AOC. Amazon is leasing office space in Manhattan for 1,500 employees, which is 6% of the 25,000 jobs its HQ2 in Queens (her district) was supposed to add,’ tweeted Peter J. Hasson, a reporter for the Daily Caller.

‘Amazon is now going to create just 6% of the jobs they would’ve before AOC killed their deal with NYC (1,500 vs 25,000), but by all means take a victory lap for the 23,500 jobs that are never coming to NYC thanks to AOC,’ tweeted Josh Jordan, and marketing-research consultant in Chicago.

While we’re here, let’s clear up some GOP disinfo:
– “It’s 1500 jobs vs 25,000”: The 25,000 jobs figure was a 10-20 year fantasy # from Amazon, not a promise or agreement. In exchange for that lack of commitment, they wanted billions of public $. Their Y1 jobs projection was 700.

– “It’s in Manhattan, not Queens”: If you live in NYC, you would know people commute to work. Amazon would not have paid taxes for many, many years and not contribute to fixing our crumbling subway system. So lots of added strain, no benefit.

– Also, and very importantly, these jobs are for FREE. The public was going to pay $3 billion in public subsidies & millions in hard cash building Amazon’s campus for them- NYC residents were subsidizing Amazon tons per job. Now they‘re bringing work without the welfare.

Lets clear up some @AOC disinfo:

Those billions in tax credits ONLY came to fruition if Amazon met the specific goals set forward by Gov Cuomo and NYC:

https://ny.curbed.com/2018/11/16/18098589/amazon-hq2-nyc-queens-long-island-city-explained …

That included a massive construction project: “Amazon will build a campus of at least 4 million square feet…But rather than going through the city’s extensive land use review process, known as ULURP, the state will take the lead and override local regulations”

Lets note that @AOC never, ever talks about the loss of construction jobs…which would have been significant.

“The agreement comes with a number of incentives: Specifically, Amazon will receive $897 million from the city’s Relocation and Employment Assistance Program (REAP) and $386 million from the Industrial & Commercial Abatement Program (ICAP).” This would have been upfront. But…

“It will receive an additional $505 million in a capital grant and $1.2 billion in “Excelsior” credits if its job creation goals are met. That brings the total amount of public funds granted to $2.988 billion—in other words, the city and state will pay Amazon $48,000 per job.”

To brand every viewpoint that’s different from yours as a GOP talking point is callous and tired.

How do you brag about trading +20000 jobs in queens for 1500 jobs in Manhattan? 🤔🙄

Congrats on playing yourself 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
