It took months of goading by democrats, authors, and the American people, but we may finally get the answers we’ve been asking for.
For 22 long months, and at a cost approaching $30 million, Robert Mueller trudged through the tertiary connections between Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign. The left hoped that the Special Counsel would find ample evidence to indict the sitting President on something – maybe “collusion”, maybe “obstruction”. When neither of these charges came to fruition against Donald Trump, congressional democrats decided to dig a little deeper, believing that Robert Mueller had left them a “road map” for impeachment.
Of course, the republicans disagree, and they have the backing of the Justice Department’s top official Attorney General Bill Barr.
Now, after months of silence, Mueller himself is set to speak to the nation at 11am.
“Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III will make a statement on the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 Presidential election,” the department said. “This will be a statement only, no question and answer period to follow.”
A senior White House official said that the White House was notified on Tuesday night that Mueller might make a statement, so the administration was not caught off-guard.
Mueller has not made any comment on the investigation since he was named special counsel in May 2017. House Democrats are seeking to have him testify before Congress in the coming weeks. Last week, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., said Mueller was willing to testify but only in private.
There has been no indication as to the content of the coming press conference, leaving many Americans to speculate as to Mueller intentions.
