mueller report

The following article, Live From The Capitol, It’s The Mueller Report!, was first published on Flag And Cross.

Much like the Saturday night variety show from which I lifted my headline, American politics have long been more theater than theocracy.

When we tune in to the fracas on Capitol Hill, we don’t see “public servants”; we see ruling class elites who showboat and grandstand their way into being elected because, let’s face it, Congressional legislators are far more wealthy than many of us will ever be.

So, in order to keep us mad at something other than the fact that they’ve rigged the game for themselves, these politicians bicker and fight with one another.  It’s entertaining, and the mainstream media feeds it to us on the daily.  It keeps us from realizing what the real issues are.

Such is the case with the Mueller report.

On the left, they are obsessed with the idea that the Mueller report will somehow delegitimize President Donald Trump.  On the right, the argument has turned to who actually got the ball rolling in the first place.

Now, in what could be one of the strangest bits of political theater we’ve seen in awhile, (and that’s saying something), there are plans to read the entire 448 pages aloud, on the record, and in front of cameras.

More than 20 House Democrats are planning a grueling 12-hour-long public reading of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on the Russia investigation in its entirety, except for the redacted parts, on Thursday.

At the forefront of the spectacle is Pennsylvania Democrat Mary Gay Scanlon, vice chairwoman of the House Judiciary Committee, who’s been rallying other Democrats to join her in the public reading of the report that found no collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, though it also noted there are 10 instances that could qualify as an obstruction of justice.

While the American people have certainly been clamoring for the truth about Russia’s interference in our electoral system, make no mistake about what Scanlon’s intentions are.

In a statement her office circulated to the media, she said that the Mueller report “illustrates a presidency founded in opportunism, devoid of respect for public service and the rule of law” and that “this administration and its enablers do not want the American people hear the contents of this report.”

The Mueller report has been made available for the public to read online already – a sticking point for those who oppose this use of congressional time.
