Massive Surge of Border Crossings Coming, Says DHS Data

Border security

While the US government isn’t often accused of being very efficient, the recent Robert Mueller fiasco has thrown a massive wrench into the gears at exactly the wrong time.

You see, as Mueller was winding down his long and wide-scoped investigation of the alleged “collusion” between the Donald Trump 2016 campaign and the Russian government, there was a worrisome uptick in illegal crossings at the Mexico-US border, and the Department of Homeland Security believes that this is only the beginning.

The number of immigrants arrested or turned away at the southern border has continued to climb to levels not seen for years, according to new Department of Homeland Security data obtained by Axios.

Why it matters: The surge has been driven by an influx of migrant families and unaccompanied children, according to a DHS official. “At the moment, we have the closest thing to an open border that we’ve had,” said Leon Fresco, an immigration attorney and member of a Homeland Security advisory committee formed by DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen several months ago.

  • Detention centers are overcrowded, and immigration officials often aren’t able to deport immigrants as quickly through expedited removal procedures.

  • Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection have even begun releasing migrant families into the U.S. almost immediately instead of holding them in detention, Mark Morgan, former chief of Customs and Border Protection under President Obama, told Axios. He said this could create an additional incentive for migrants.

In the weeks leading up to the first climax of the Mueller investigation, the President and his team were focused singularly on border security, having declared a National Emergency in order to fund the construction of a border barrier.

One can only hope now that the distraction of RussiaGate will give way in time to prevent a humanitarian crisis on the border from getting any worse.

If this invasion is not stopped & the invaders sent back to their own country America will be finished as the land of the free. The military should be placed on the border and the force needed to stop the people that are trying to take our country. We do not owe the world a living, children nor adults.

You realize “IF” the wall was erected? None of these folks would be heading to America? As long as the door is standing WIDE OPEN? Of course people will walk through it. Friggin “COMMON SENSE” … Close the Friggin DORR For The Love Of GOD! Means BUILD THE WALL. Then it will force folks to apply for Citizenship. Instead, of showing up my the MILLIONS! Otherwise, America will become a 3Rd World Country exactly like the Countries the people are running from? AND from the looks of the people? They will be applying for Welfare the minute they land on… Read more »
