Former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) is probably happy to have left Congress.
Despite playing nice at times, Ryan and President Trump hardly ever saw eye to eye.
In a recent meeting, Trump scorched Ryan for screwing him and not securing funding for the border wall.
From Washington Post:
At a meeting Wednesday with conservative groups, the president accused former House speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) of having “screwed him” by not securing border wall money when Republicans had the majority, according to one attendee, Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies. He said Ryan should have gotten him money before he left but he had no juice and had “gone fishing,” according to two attendees.
Ryan had warned the president against a shutdown and told him it would be politically disastrous, according to a person familiar with their conversations.
Ryan said Utah Senator Mitt Romney could serve as the “standard bearer” for the Republican Party.
House Speaker Paul Ryan said that newly elected senator Mitt Romney, his former running mate, can be the “standard-bearer” for Republicans in Congress like the late Sen. John McCain.
Ryan, R-Wis., said “it’s great” that Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts who was elected to the Senate in Utah, is coming to Capitol Hill.
“It’s great that he’s coming. Mitt believes there’s a role for him … as a standard-bearer for our party.”
After Trump said he’d look for a way to end birthright citizenship (possibly via executive order), Ryan wasn’t on board.
“You obviously cannot do that. You cannot end birthright citizenship with an executive order. We didn’t like it when Obama tried changing immigration laws via executive action, and obviously as conservatives, we believe in the Constitution.”
“I’m a believer in following the plain text of the Constitution, and I think in this case, the 14th Amendment’s pretty clear, and that would involve a very very lengthy Constitutional process. I believe in interpreting the Constitution as its written, and that means you can’t do something like this via executive order.”
Check out Trump’s words for Paul back in October 2018:
Paul Ryan should be focusing on holding the Majority rather than giving his opinions on Birthright Citizenship, something he knows nothing about! Our new Republican Majority will work on this, Closing the Immigration Loopholes and Securing our Border!

Check out what happens when college students find out these border wall quotes were made by the likes of Schumer, Hillary, and Obama after being told they were made by President Trump.
Hopefully, these kids learned a lesson.
Just a few years ago, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) used the same language about the border wall that Trump uses now.
The words are strikingly similar.
Just goes to show how political the border wall has become.
See for yourself:
Chuck Schumer in 2009:
-Americans don't like illegal immigration
-"Illegal immigration is wrong"
-People illegally in the U.S. are "illegal aliens," not "undocumented"
-Border fence made the southern border "far more secure…created a significant barrier to illegal immigration" pic.twitter.com/zoVyEgdrTC
